Jesus In My Heart And Chicken In My Mouth

On the way to the job one day last week
I stopped on the road at a KFC
I got four legs so I could eat and drive
And I went down the road, glad to be alive

With crumbs on my lap and grease on the wheel
I began to think maybe this could be my last meal
So I mumbled out a prayer: Lord keep me safe and sound
With Jesus in my heart and chicken in my mouth

(Chorus)
I got Jesus in my heart and chicken in my mouth
And I’m riding down the road in the finger-lickin’ South
If I die and hit the Pearly Gates I’ll hear the angels shout
With Jesus in my heart and chicken in my mouth

So I took a big bite and put the fries on the dash
Then I hit a pot hole and my tea began to splash
I only took my eyes off the road for a sec
When suddenly my airbag decided to eject

I tried to hold the wheel but grease was everywhere
So I grabbed a chicken leg and slammed it into gear
That didn’t seem to work so I took another bite
And long about then everything went white

Now up here in heaven things are really going great
I miss my huntin’ dog but I never miss a plate
They got a restaurant called the “Chicken on the Mount”
Where I sit and eat with Jesus, can you guess what’s in my mouth?

(Chorus)
I got Jesus in my heart and chicken in my mouth
And I’m riding down the road in the finger-lickin’ South
If I die and hit the Pearly Gates I’ll hear the angels shout
With Jesus in my heart and chicken in my mouth
